A Reddit user has successfully developed a custom triple-fan Noctua cooler for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, significantly enhancing its cooling performance. This innovation, shared on the Small Form Factor PC subreddit, involves a 3D printed shroud and Noctua NF-A9 fans.
The shroud was printed by user “zaME19”, and is compatible with the Inno3D GeForce RTX 4090’s non-reference PCB. It enables the mounting of three 92mm fans which operate at a maximum speed of 2000 RPM, offer an airflow of 78.9 m3/h and maintain a low noise level of 22.8 dBA, thanks to their SS02 bearing mechanism and anti-vibration pads.
The custom cooler, which can be personalized in design, attaches to the GPU’s heatsink via a single 4-pin connector. The user reports an 8C reduction in temperature compared to the original Inno3D design, alongside quieter operation. This modification is part of a growing trend where users employ Noctua fans for custom GPU cooling solutions, a practice also seen in products from ASUS and SYCOM.
The success of this custom cooler demonstrates the potential of tailored cooling solutions in enhancing GPU performance, and also highlights the role of 3D printing in enabling such modifications. The realm of GPU cooling may see increased customization, leveraging 3D printing technology for tailored designs that enhance both performance and visual appeal.
