Pumpkin Spice Filament Returns to 3D Printing « Fabbaloo

“That time of year” has arrived in the 3D print space.

What do I mean by “that time of year”? It’s when you start seeing almost everything flavored with that Halloween favorite, “Pumpkin Spice”. You’ll see it in coffees, donuts and other food fare this month. Sometimes as a joke you’ll see an item marked as “Pumpkin Spice” flavored, even though it’s edible, like engine oil, or office chairs.

This aromatic phenomenon reached the 3D printing world with the release of “Pumpkin Spice Filament” a couple of years ago, and it re-emerges annually at this time.

I saw a recent announcement from Filaments.ca where they offer such a material.

As you might expect, it’s an orangey-brown material with a few flecks in it, as if you somehow were extruding pumpkin material for a pie.

But it’s not just the color. Filaments.ca explains:

“New! Pumpkin Spiced Caramel PLA contains real food grade pumpkin spice that produces a beautiful natural warm Caramel colour with dark specks and gives off a delicious aroma/smell while printing!”

This stuff literally smells like pumpkin spice, at least when you heat it up.

PLA filament often does have a somewhat sweet smell during printing operations because of the organics in the material. But this filament seems to be tuned into pumpkin spice aroma.

Filaments.ca sells a 1kg spool of “EconoFil Standard PLA Filament – Pumpkin Spiced Caramel” for CA$30 (US$22).

This style of filament is available at a number of filament providers, so check with your local source to see if it’s available.

Wherever you get it, however, definitely don’t eat the prints no matter how good they smell.
